The world and story of Time Heroes
Time Heroes is set in Timelands, and one line holds the whole setting together: Timelands is not a universe where people control time, it is a universe where time spent is not lost. Every minute actually lived here leaves something behind.
This page is the public version of that world, the part players meet in the game: the Stillness, the eggs, the colonies, the network pilots call the Dial, and the three names that keep turning up in the records.
What Timelands is
Timelands is not one timeline among many. It is the name of the entire place you play in: the Nexus you stand in, the star chart above it, and all 10 known worlds from the first forest to the Edge of Time.
The strange property of this universe is that it does not forget time. Somewhere else a minute passes and is gone. Here it leaves a small measurable trace, and the whole game is built on that one rule.
You are the Time Hero
The hero is the player. Pets are pets, creatures and companions, never heroes, and that distinction matters because of what the title means.
A Time Hero is not someone who bends time. A Time Hero is someone who gives their own time to Timelands. Give a minute and a trace forms. Give an hour and a world keeps changing a little longer. Put thousands of people together and whole regions hold out against the Stillness. Here the play time is the story.
Why TimeStars exist
TimeStars form naturally while you spend time in Timelands, roughly 1 per minute. They can also be granted or rewarded, so a balance is not a stopwatch reading of your life.
In the fiction a TimeStar is the trace a lived minute leaves behind. That is why the third currency is not a marketing invention bolted onto the economy: it is the physics of the setting as a number you can hold.
The Stillness
The threat in Timelands is not time breaking. It is change stopping. When the Stillness settles over a region, the clock keeps running and nothing new happens.
- Lightning in a storm strikes the same spot, over and over.
- A wave reaches the shore in exactly the same shape.
- A torch burns and never gets any shorter.
- A door closes, and seconds later closes the same way again.
What an egg is
Eggs are not anomalies, fragments of space or sealed timelines. They are the creatures of Timelands in a waiting state. Living things here evolved a very old defence against the Stillness: when a region stops changing, some species close themselves into a shell and wait it out.
So an egg is not a timeline, it is someone who started waiting. Hatching ends a creature's wait, and the first thing out of the shell looks at you because you are the one who ended it. Lumine, the archivist, puts it in a single line: the rare one is not the one born stronger, it is the one that waited longer.
Colonies, and what an Anchor is
One hero can carry their own existence through a Cycle. A group can do something larger. When people live, build and remember each other in the same place for long enough, that place begins to resist the Stillness, and Timelands calls the result an Anchor.
This is why a colony is not a decorative guild room. It is a point where players know each other, share a name and build a common record, and social memory is load bearing here. The fantasy is not that you farm pets alone, it is that a group builds something that stays.
The Dial, and three names in the records
The star chart is not an astronomical map. It is the map of the jump network, and pilots call it the Dial. The 10 known worlds appear on it as destinations. Distance is counted in jump units rather than light years, because a shuttle crosses a topology, not open space.
Three names come up constantly and none is explained on day one. Quantulon is a lost pathfinder who has been where nobody else has been and left records behind. Exulon is the presence players push back rather than kill, which is why the game says repel and contain. The Mind runs stabilization: it decides when a region has drifted too far, restores it to a known stable state, and sends out the Sentinels that patrol the chart.
The Handbook explains the world as players know it. The rest is found in the game.
Is the hero the player or the pet?
The player. You are the Time Hero. Pets are pets, creatures and companions, and none of them is called a hero anywhere in the game.
What does a TimeStar represent?
The trace a lived minute leaves in Timelands, roughly 1 per minute spent. TimeStars can also be granted or rewarded, so a balance is not a stopwatch reading.
Does hatching an egg create a creature?
No. The creature was already there, closed into a shell and waiting out the Stillness. Hatching ends that wait, so a rare pet is one that waited longer, not one born stronger.
What is the Dial?
The name pilots use for the jump network on the star chart. The 10 known worlds sit on it as destinations, and distances use jump units.
