Everything one pet is made of
People say a pet is rare, or golden, or huge, as if those were the same kind of statement. They are not. A pet is six separate answers stacked on one creature, each decided by its own roll, and knowing which is which is the difference between reading your collection and guessing at it.
The easiest way to see it is to take one creature and walk it through every layer. Nutfern will do. It is the Common of World 1, the first pet almost everyone owns, and it can carry every layer on this page.

Layer one: the species
Nutfern is the creature. This never changes. No machine, no upgrade and no reset turns a Nutfern into something else, and every other layer below is a description of a particular Nutfern rather than of a different animal.
There are 70 creatures across the 10 live worlds, 7 per world, one for each rarity.
Layer two: the rarity
Nutfern is Common, which is fixed by the creature: rarity comes with the species rather than being rolled on top of it. What the hatch actually rolls is which creature you get, and the odds of that are the rarity table: Common at 50.0525% down to Secret at 0.0025%.
Rarity sets the pet's base mining number, and the world it comes from multiplies that by five for every world past the first. This is the only layer your Luck moves.
Layer three: the form
A Nutfern can be Basic, Golden, Rainbow, Astral or Nova, and the form multiplies its mining power by 1, 3, 9, 27 or 81. This layer comes two ways. The hatch can roll it outright, at 1.5% for Golden, 0.5% for Rainbow and 0.05% for Astral. Or you build it, by feeding copies of the same Nutfern into the Evolution Hub.
Nova is the exception. No egg produces one, and the machine that makes them can fail with a full load.
Layer four: the shine
Shine is a straight yes or no, rolled at 0.5%, and it doubles mining power. It is not a form, it stacks on any form, and a Shiny Nutfern and a plain Nutfern sit in different rows of your collection.
Shine is the one layer that carries up the form ladder. Fuse Shiny copies and the result is Shiny too, with no roll.
Layer five: the size
Base, Big, Giant or Titan, rolled once per physical pet at the moment it is created, and worth 1x, 2x, 4x or 8x on mining power and net worth alike. A Titan Common Nutfern is entirely possible and lands about once in a hundred and fifty thousand pets.
Size is the one layer that does not carry. A crafted pet rolls its own size from scratch, so feeding a Giant Nutfern into a machine hands nothing up the ladder.
Layer six: the sign
Every pet is stamped with a Zodiac sign when it is created. It does not change its power. It is an identity marker, and contract boards can ask for a specific sign, so a stack of one creature is really a stack of several.
Rolled at birth, or earned later
- Rolled the moment the pet exists: which creature, therefore its rarity, plus the form, the shine, the sign and the size.
- Earned later: a higher form, built from copies in the Evolution Hub.
- Never changes once rolled: the species, the shine, the sign and the size.
- Multiplies mining power: rarity and world, then form, then shine, then size, all multiplied together on one pet.
Can one pet carry every layer at once?
Yes. A Shiny Astral Titan Nutfern is a legal pet. Each layer is rolled or built independently, so they stack rather than compete.
Which layer is worth the most?
Form, by a distance. Nova is 81 times the mining power of a Basic. Size tops out at 8 times and shine at 2 times, but those two are rolls rather than something you can grind toward.
Why does my collection show the same creature twice?
Because the rows are the full identity, not just the species. A plain Nutfern and a Shiny Nutfern are different rows, and a machine can only work on one row at a time.
